It's the best feeling in the world when a student tells me their Mom or Dad is coming home from a deployment. After 10 years of teaching on JBLM, I've seen 100's of parents coming and going for months at a time and even longer. It always amazes me to watch the children press forward and be strong through the difficult separation. I always wondered what it was like when a parent came home. Recently, I had the honor of photographing a homecoming for a wonderful family. I felt so honored to be a part of this special moment!

I never imagined 4 years ago that I would be typing this post. I have been blessed to photograph so many exciting moments in these past few years of Photos by Trina Gueck. This one is up there on my "most memorable" list.

I met Kylee in 2001. I was 21 and just got hired as a second grade teacher. I remember being so excited and couldn't wait to have my own class. I wanted to be a teacher since I was 4 years old! Kylee was one of my very first students that year. Her mother, Michele, was a HUGE help that first year. I honestly think if it wasn't for Michele, I wouldn't have survived.

Fast forward to 2011. I was so excited to receive a message from Kylee asking ME to do her senior photos. I was so excited that I told everyone I knew!

Great things are coming this month! My goal to revealing my new website and logo is June 27th! (The last day of the school year for me!) I can't wait to share what I've been working so hard on. Another great thing that happened to me recently is I found out I'll be teaching 3rd grade next year. I'm soooooooooo excited to be returning to the classroom!

Here's a sneak peek from one of my recent sessions. I recently joined Operation Love ReUnitedas a volunteer photographer. I get the privilege of documenting the journey that families go through when their spouse deploys. I met up with C&D for their predeployment session. They were so easy to work with and bonded instantly when they told me they were from New Jersey too! ;-) Here are a couple of my favorites!

I'm *almost* caught up on blogging! This month FLEW by! I'm lucky to be able to celebrate my birthday in the same month as my mom. My sister surprised us on Saturday and took us to see the Nutcracker in Seattle. It was amazing! Sunday we celebrated with a yummy cake!

I had the funniest session today. Yes....I discovered newborn sessions can be funny! Miss A surprised her parents a month early. The best light for photography is early morning and an hour before sunset. It's called The Golden Hour. I've always admired other photographer's photos taken during that time frame. I haven't had the opportunity to schedule a session during that time...so I made it my mission for the rest of this month to capture something beautiful and frame worthy. I had the honor of photographing one of my c0-worker's wedding reception this weekend. It was at a teacher's dream location: The Kennedy School in Portland, OR. For those of you who haven't heard of this place, it's awesome! It's an old elementary schoolhouse converted into a hotel/restaurant/event location. It was the PERFECT location for the C-C wedding reception since they met during the new teacher orientation. (I just love that!) The M family is very special to me. I had the honor of being Jesse's son's teacher at the end of last year. I always have a big heart for all my students, but every once in a while one grabs onto my heartstrings. This little guy was one of those kiddos. I was so excited when Sara found me through a wedding website and asked me to be their photographer! It was a beautiful day and a beautiful wedding. Today I met Little I and his family. It's always great when I meet clients and feel like I've known them forever. I immediately felt at home! Mr. I was a great model....cried a little at first and then cooperated like a champ! It was only at the end when he decided enough's enough and made us work hard for those last couple shots. My trip to NJ/NYC was AMAZING! I had so much fun! I can't wait until this summer when (hopefully) I'll get to go back. While I was in NJ I made a stop to my hometown of Hasbrouck Heights to meet up w/ the R family. I went to high school w/ mom and dad and it was so great to see them and meet their little girls. It was a great surprise to see their mom there too! Here's a sneak peek into our session. Tomorrow Dan and I are flying out to New Jersey!!!! For those who don't know me...I was born and raised in NE Jersey...right near Giants Stadium. My cousin Jamie is getting married on Saturday and asked me to be her wedding photographer! I also get to do a family session while I'm there for the R family. I went to HS with Mrs. R., and we were in colorguard together. I'm so excited to be able to see friends and family....and of course to be "home"...yes...part of my heart will always be there. Dan and I are going to spend Thursday night in NYC near Times Square! Even though I lived in NJ (minutes away from NYC) for 17 years....I never spent the night in the city...so I'm really excited! *See* you all next Monday...oh yes...there will be pictures...LOTS of them!!!

A photographer's worst nightmare happened to me tonight. I came home from a wonderful session with Miss A and went to go download the files. I put my memory card into my card reader and connected it to the computer. It wouldn't download and froze my computer. I tried taking the card out and tried downloading them right from the camera...no luck! Photoshop was telling me the files were empty. What did I do....you're right! ...had a panic attack! Luckily I had some amazing friends online and was able to connect me to: http://www.cardrescue.com/. Phew! In an hour I had my precious files safely on the computer!

Saturday was a blast! I got to see 2 former clients for their Valentine's mini sessions. Mr. L was up first and this time he was full of smiles! The last time I saw him he was only a few days old and was not enjoying the camera...hehe. Don't you just love how big his eyes are? Next up was Mr. A. The last time I saw him he was only a couple of months old. I can't believe his birthday is right around the corner! Thanks buddy for sharing your pumpkin bread with Kylen! 30...yes...today is my 30th birthday! I have to say that it's been my favorite birthday so far! It started on Friday when some of my wonderful coworkers decorated my office with black balloons and wore black ribbons to mourn me getting older....hehe. They also surprised me with a special message on the reader board. The best thing that day was when Mrs. Richardson's reading group started singing Happy Birthday in the hallway. It was so cute! Yesterday my inlaws drove up to take us out to lunch and surprised us with a Christmas tree. Last night some of my awesome friends took me out to celebrate my 21+9 birthday. We had a yummy meal at Masa's in Tacoma and then his Chopsticks for some piano fun. It was a blast. Today, my actual birthday, was a lo-key day. We put up the Christmas tree and hung out in our jammies. My parents and sister came over for some cake to end the celebration. I am blessed to have so many wonderful people in my life. My friends, family, and clients are the best! May your Christmas be filled with lots of peace, love, and joy!
